Back-To-Back Champions: Sunbird Men Secure the Conference Title

May 1, 2026

Reigning supreme for the second year in a row, Fresno Pacific men's track and field won the conference title by a long shot, scoring 265 points as a team.

The women's team finished third overall, collecting 152 points for the weekend. On top of Friday's four conference champions, the Sunbirds collected 33 total medals with 16 event champions.

"I couldn't be prouder of the women's team for their resilience and dedication, especially after losing two of their top athletes," said head coach Robert Foster. "The mens team showed courage and unity, supporting each other throughout the events. Their collective effort and spirit were truly inspiring—more satisfying than even winning the conference championship itself."

Chavez Grey and Shemar Palmer were named the men's Outstanding Field Athlete and Track Athlete of the Meet, respectively. Chavez clinched the conference title in the shot put and discus, adding to his second-place finish in the hammer throw on Thursday. Whereas, senior standout Palmer earned the honor for the second consecutive year after breaking his own PacWest record in the 200m (20.47) and winning both of his events (200m and 400m) by a landslide. He also played a key role in the champion 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.

For the Lady 'Birds, Cyan Haslip earned the women's Track Athlete of Meet honor after placing second in the 100m, 200m, and the 100m hurdles. Cyan achieved a huge lifetime best in the 200 meters and qualified for the national championships in that event, moving up to number four on the all-time ÐßÐßÊÓƵ list. She continued her streak by running a personal best in the hurdles, which qualified her for nationals and placed her at number two on ÐßÐßÊÓƵ's all-time list. The sophomore also was a key component in ÐßÐßÊÓƵ's champion 4x100 relay team to round out her thrilling performance.

On Saturday, Malachi Carrasco kicked things off with a win in the men's high jump (2.04m), while Monte Moore sealed the victory in the 800m (1:52.87). Jonathan Tseko-Biffle placed third in the men's 110 hurdles, competing against NCAA provisional qualifying marks. The men's 4x100 relay team, consisting of Gus Remlinger, Palmer, Aamir Smith, and Rome Johnson, crossed the line first at 40.46. Wrapping up a long weekend, Jackson Paramo finished second overall in the men's decathlon with 6642 points.

On the women's side, Kenahdi Haslip (54.30) and Shaniya Randolph (54.43) took the first two slots in the 400m dash, while Mikiyla Royal and Cyan Haslip dominated in the 100m dash to add more points to the board. Randolph made waves by winning the women's 200 meters with a lifetime best of 23.83 seconds, earning her a spot in the NCAA. She also finished as a runner-up in the 400 meters and contributed to the women's champion 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. The 'Birds swept up first, second, and third-place in the 200 dash, thanks to Randolph (28.83), C. Haslip (23.84), and Royal (23.88). After two full days of competition, Clara Wagner finished second in the women's heptathlon with 4836 points.

Ultimately, the Sunbird men were named the PacWest Champions for the second year in a row, beating out the competition by over 100 points. Despite losing key Sunbird athletes like Avril Mendoza and Nydia Chance due to injury—who were crucial for a possible first-ever conference title—the women's team rallied together and fought for a third-place finish, trailing behind Biola and Azusa Pacific.

"Overall, it was an incredible weekend packed with highlights, personal bests, lifetime records, and numerous national provisional qualifiers. The ÐßÐßÊÓƵ track and field team has two last-chance meets left to tighten up any loose ends before heading to nationals."
